FMP Part II

I have finally finished my final major project.

This was one of the most difficult projects I have ever had to do at college. The brief required us to use denim as inspiration in some way, the res was entirely up to us. I chose to use indian textiles and infuse this with the ‘hippy’ era, using the bright colours and iconography.  I was also inspired by festival fashion.

Unfortunately I just couldn’t get into this project and lost focus. I am so disappointed with myself as I know I can do so much better! I hope this doesn’t jeopardise my chances of getting into uni.

Here are images of my final pieces, I hope you like them, I think I might take them to bestival with me!

Editing done by myself.

Armour in Nature

A quick photo shoot to showcase the collar I made for my accessories project.

The collar was inspired by armour in nature and was made using unusual fabrics such as, pvc, foiled metallic mulberry leather and taffeta.

I had limited time to get ready for the shoot and so I quickly created an abstract smokey eye which features subtle reptile shapes.

I styled the collar with simple clothing as I wanted the collar to be the main focus. I really wanted to use my new skirt/shorts (skort) I purchased from Asos as I feel it compliments the harsh angles in the collar.

Hello everyone!

Sorry I haven’t been posting much lately, but now I am back and I desperately need your help!

I have been given my final brief of this year and it is the last major project. We have to create a collection inspired or using denim. I have decided to up-cycle old denim, influenced by ethnical textiles (mostly indian) and ‘Hippy’ attire. I am creating a collection for young festival goers with a strong emphasis on styling. For this project I want to emphasis a strong focus on the promotional side of the fashion industry, and will present my work for assessment digitally, creating a website, brand name, logo and a photo shoot (much like the brand project previously).

I am struggling to pick a name for my brand i am creating for my FMP (final major project). My collection is inspired by Hippy/ ethnic/ festival clothing, and need to come up with a name that will reflect this.

So far i have come up with these names:

  • Gypsy Stoned
  • Gypsyglyphics
  • Gypsy Empress
  • Gypsy Bones
  • Gypsy Whispers
  • Gypsy Revelation
  • Velvelette Empress
  • Soul struck
  • Star-crossed & Love-stoned
  • Love-stoned
  • The Drifter
  • Crossfire Huntress
  • Sunfire
  • Day Tripper
  • Tiny Dancer

Those are only a few I have come up with so far, but I would like to know which ones you think are strong brand names and which ones are pretty weak. Please feel free to input any of your ideas, I would love to hear them!

Love and wishes

Sophie

Urban Folk

Back in January I helped direct and style a photo shoot for one of my friend’s brand project. She also wanted to feature the folk skirts we made in our first year of college, however she wanted to juxtapose the warm, homely folk skirts with an contemporary urban twist.

I liked the idea of featuring a raw urban edge by styling the skirts with chunky jewellery, heavy make-up and leather accessories (such as the leather gloves and converses), I thought the clean asymmetric lines of the off the shoulder top gave the whole look a subtle form of sophistication and femininity.

I have just finished editing the images and thought that posting these photos were long over due! I hope you like them!ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

I can’t believe I’ve gone this long without using Photoshop! It’s genius! I love all of the different curves and actions you can use to create different moods and atmosphere’s.

Here are a few Images that have been quickly edited using Photoshop. They aren’t great but I love the intense colour and how it resembles an old beat up film camera.

The photo’s I have used were for my friends Look book, the dress was designed by her and I styled it with a underskirt I created, big panda eye make-up, Marie Antoinette hair and flower hoop earrings and over-sized velvet heels. I wanted to add black leather biker gloves as I had an image of a ‘Gothic, Alice in Wonderland’ look, however my friend felt it would be too much.

I would love to know what you thought of the images, These are only experimentations but any feedback would be wonderful

This is the first time I have ever edited a photo so i apologise in advance. This photo shoot was produced for my ongoing brand project.

Ideally I would’ve loved to have used a proper model and hair and make-up artist. I also wanted the location to be in the morning in a park somewhere, unfortunately it snowed and many couldn’t make it. Being an optimist I was determined to get this photo shoot finished. I did my hair and make-up and styling. My very good friend Hattie is a talented photographer and was kind enough to put up with me and take some very quick photos.

I hope you like them and any advice and feedback would be welcome and I would be very grateful!

A couple of days ago I wanted to create an experimental photo shoot featuring my friend Hattie’s homemade origami hats. I wanted to create something that was reminiscent of Andy Warhol’s factory superstar; eccentric, bold and graphic.
I love the way these photos have turned out (photographed by Hattie) and I might even consider putting them on the Promenade website.
I hope you like them, I might even edit a few more!

I have had the incredible opportunity to take part in a life drawing class at college. Life drawing has always fascinated me and it was wonderful to study the human body and to strengthen my skill in drawing.
The images I have uploaded here are quick exercises and are unfinished, they’re not amazing but I would love to showcase them on my blog. I hope you like them!IMG_0634[1]
